As San Diego continues to grow in population and wealth, it would be fitting that "big city" nightlife begin taking a greater shape in the Gaslamp Quarter and its surrounding areas.  However, even with the influx of bar and club growth in downtown, San Diego has never been known for having a popping underground music scene, particularly with respect to electronic music.  But with House music quickly becoming the norm in nightclubs around the world (partly due to the introduction of Electro House a few years back) many local San Diegans have worked diligently to get some dirty basslines pumping through the dance floors in the San Diego night clubs.

A local DJ, Filthy Sanchez put things into perspective with "It's all about giving those top-40 lovin' girls their first taste of house music that is undeniably bad-ass.  It doesn't all sound the same, so don't call it Techno!  It's House Music, baby!"  With a new generation of club heads and an open mind, the San Diego Music scene will finally digress from the mainstream, beyond what can be heard between cuts on your morning radio show.

Here are a few of Boozesandiego's favorite DJ night clubs.

Although there are a few other night clubs which bring world-class DJ talent to San Diego, none have been as consistent as Club Belo in Downtown San Diego.  As you make your descent into the club, with bass beginning to rattle your insides, you will feel like you are entering a true urban mega-club.  In this huge, brilliantly designed venue you will find incredible house and electronic DJ's almost every night.  Even the resident DJ's are known to blow the roof off this joint, sometimes harder than the headliner, who will often spin until 4am.  The raw DJ talent in Belo has drawn a very diversely beautiful crowd which packs the club from wall to wall on any given weekend.  This night club has opened many people up to electronic music and has helped the fuel the fire for house music to infiltrate San Diego’s nightlife.

Another Downtown San Diego night club getting some action from worldwide DJ talent has a reputation for picking up DJ’s as they are passing through on their way to Las Vegas or LA.  The Red C Lounge in Gaslamp Quarter is known for having their banging club nights during the middle of the week.  Between Wednesday night Mash-ups and Thursday night guest DJ’s (always sick – check their online calendar) you will always be able to find some raw DJ sessions to groove to.  This San Diego night club even Drum and Bass on Sunday nights, proving that San Diego is finally getting some real underground DJ culture.

This last San Diego bar can hardly be considered a night club because it is really more of a dive bar.  However, Bar Dynamite pulls serious local DJ talent and is a cornerstone in San Diego nightlife.  Mostly spinning Hip-Hop and Mash-Ups (all vinyl), this Mission Hills bar puts together one hell-of-a Wednesday night House line-up.  To anyone who considers themselves to be into DJ culture and underground music, this San Diego bar is a necessity for your mid-week dancing urges… and the weekends rock too!
