The Best Irish Pubs in San Diego

Nowadays it seems like just about everyone claims to be a little bit Irish, at least on St. Paddy’s Day.  What used to be a religious holiday in Ireland has become one of the best San Diego bar nights of the year.  Downtown San Diego is closed off and heavily policed due to the monstrosity of St Paddy’s Day in the Gaslamp Quarter of Downtown San Diego.  With about twenty Irish Pubs in San Diego, anyone can find a great place nearby to have a green beer on this day of debauchery and Irish Car Bombs beginning as early as 6am.

Hennesseys Tavern in Pacific Beach and Hennesseys in Downtown San Diego (2 locations) is one of the most popular Irish Pubs in San Diego.  Incredibly delicious authentic Irish Pub grub and burgers matched with nightly drink and beer specials make Hennessy’s irresistible on any night of the week.  Known for having Karaoke, great Live Bands and minimal “douche bag” PB dudes makes this Irish Pub a local’s neighborhood favorite.  Do be aware that this place goes absolutely nuts on St. Paddy’s Day and it is highly recommended that you arrive by 11am if you plan on avoiding a ridiculously long line.

O Connolls Pub in Linda Vista is a mainstay in the Live Music scene.  This San Diego Irish Pub serves stiff cocktails and pints of great beer at great prices.  Off the beaten path of other neighborhood bars makes O Connolls a great St. Paddy’s Day joint should you get a late start.

The Field in Downtown San Diego, another extremely popular San Diego Irish Pub, will transport you back in time to an Irish Pub in Dublin with its incredibly authentic décor, succulent Irish Pub grub, and traditional Irish music.  St. Paddy’s Day expectantly goes off at this San Diego Irish Pub and it is recommended that you arrive shortly after doors open (7am) if you want to get a table for the day.

Blarney Stone Pub in Clairmont is a hidden gem which features live music nightly.  Although this San Diego Irish Pub does not serve food, the staff is cool with patrons bringing their own food or having a pizza delivered to the bar.

Gallagher’s in Ocean Beach, one of OB’s latest nightlife additions, is the only Irish Pubs in Ocean Beach.  Hot waitresses, plenty of flat screen TV’s, shuffleboard, live bands, and a brand new full bar make this Ocean Beach Irish Pub a local favorite.  Being the only Irish Pub in the area is a good reason to check out this bar on St. Paddy’s Day.
